Sønderskov Castle
Jylland, Brørup · Denmark · Slott · Scare 4/5
A white maiden strode into the cattle shed. The next day they dug up an infant's skeleton beneath the floor stone—and she vanished.
The 400-year-old Sønderskov Castle south of Brørup long had a recurring nocturnal visitor: a white maiden who strode across the courtyard and into the cattle shed, much to the irritation of the head herdsman and stable keeper and to the distress of the cows. One night the head herdsman resolved to shoot her—but his rifle proved to be cursed and refused to fire.
The same night the stable keeper lay in one of the stalls when the room suddenly lit up as if by bright daylight. The white maiden reached out her hand to him. He reached back with a long staff, and she grasped it. The next day they dug up the stone paving under that very stall—and found the skeleton of an infant. Since then no white maiden has appeared at Sønderskov.
