Hotel Ole Lunds Gaard
Sjælland, Kalundborg · Denmark · Hotell · Scare 3/5
The 270-year-old merchant's mansion houses an entire ghost family that clinks glasses and throws flowers.
Ole Lunds Gaard in the heart of Kalundborg is one of Denmark's best-preserved merchant's mansions and has stood since 1777. Old Ole Lund himself was one of the town's most powerful merchants — and apparently died unwilling to leave the house. Today the estate is run as a hotel, but the entire Lund family seems to still hold court in the halls.
Staff and guests tell of recurring phenomena in the restaurant and corridors: glasses on tables begin to clink without vibrations, doors are knocked and banged on without visible cause, and now and then someone throws flowers out of the vases at the staff. The Lund family are also said to enjoy joking with guests — objects are moved between rooms and disappear only to turn up in places they never stood.
