Nørre Vissing Inn

Jylland, Nørre Vissing · Denmark · Värdshus · Scare 3/5

A curious female figure in the wine cellar leaves the door open — and moves decorated wooden shoes at Christmas.

Nørre Vissing Inn west of Skanderborg has been an inn since 1801, and in the old wine cellar there has long dwelt a female figure whom no one has been able to identify. She is curious rather than malicious — but she has an annoying habit of not closing the door behind her, which the staff discover every morning.

At Christmas, decorated wooden shoes are usually placed in the cellar doorway. They are regularly moved during the night to other places in the house. Waiters have been followed to the door by the ghost, and the staff have traditionally avoided working alone down there. One night the owner sat down with a candle in the wine cellar to observe — the figure appeared and let her white shadow fall over him before the light went out.
