Lykkesholm Castle

A phantom carriage rolls onto the courtyard night after night. Elder women wander among the elderberry bushes.

Lykkesholm Castle in South Funen is a peaceful beauty by day — but the nights are something else. On several occasions, a phantom carriage has been observed driving into the castle gardens and continuing onto the courtyard toward the round-arched carriage gate. It is believed to belong to the old aristocrats of Lykkesholm who cannot find rest. Activity is also pronounced in one of the tower rooms.

It becomes stranger still when you venture out into the park. Here live the so-called elder women — nocturnal elves who dwell in the elderberry bushes and move about the castle. They are harmless as long as you keep away from the elder flowers. Pick the blossoms from the bushes and things will never quite go right — and the estate's historical records mention more than one incident where a careless visitor returned home with illnesses that no doctor could explain.
