Lille Restrup Hovedgaard
Jylland, Aalestrup · Denmark · Herrgård · Scare 3/5
A barn door opens by itself. Locks and hinges have been replaced several times — it makes no difference.
Lille Restrup Hovedgaard in Himmerland has what seems to be a quiet ghost tradition — but a persistent one. In the old stable, there is a door that opens by itself, as if someone enters and forgets to close it behind them. The door has been replaced several times, handles have been remounted and locking mechanisms have been renewed — it never helps. The door opens.
Local tradition points to Landsdommer Niels Clemmesen from Viborg as responsible. He was master of the estate in the early 1500s, and took his own life when Christian II forced him in 1518 to relinquish the property. The king later returned it to his widow. Since then, Clemmesen is said to have returned — but for unclear reasons, he is only interested in that particular barn door.
