Hjorths Beach Hotel
Jylland, Kandestederne · Denmark · Hotell · Scare 3/5
Engel Kristine died of the Spanish flu and left four children behind. She still walks along the hotel's yellow walls—even in broad daylight.
The yellow Hjorths Beach Hotel stands in Kandestederne in northern Vendsyssel, in the heart of the Råbjerg Mile region. It is a place of boarding house childhoods and vast sand dunes—and home to one of North Jutland's most persistent ghosts.
Engel Kristine lived her short life at the hotel in the early 1900s before the Spanish flu took her, leaving behind four children and a husband. She is a small, stooped woman in a light summer dress. She knows nothing of how a ghost is "supposed" to behave—she appears even in broad daylight, at sunrise, or any time at all. She always follows the same route: silent, bent forward, along the hotel's yellow east wing, through the garden, past the white glass doors, around the gable, and disappears.
