Dronninglund Slot
Jylland, Dronninglund · Denmark · Slott · Scare 2/5
A vanished prioress still visits guests at night — she strokes their foreheads and sings softly.
Dronninglund Slot in Vendsyssel was originally a Benedictine convent, Hundslund Cloister, until the Reformation. The cloister's last prioress refused Bishop Stygge Krumpen and his hired men access to the nuns' dormitory — a conflict that ended with her mysteriously disappearing from the historical record.
Today the castle functions as a hotel, and guests repeatedly tell of an elderly woman who visits their rooms at night. She does not inspire fear. On the contrary: guests describe a feeling of deep safety when she quietly sings and strokes their foreheads. Historians have concluded that it is the vanished prioress who still comes to look after her nuns — who now happen to be hotel guests.
