Eiler Høg drove a carpenter to suicide in the 1600s — and still haunts the place. Two hellhounds tore a colonel to pieces.
Dallund Slot on North Funen dates back to the 1300s. In the 1630s, the great landowner Eiler Høg drove a carpenter to suicide by accusing him of stealing a nail. Since then, Høg has haunted the castle and frightened guests. One night his ghost ordered the shoemaker in Søndersø to make a pair of boots and paid with his own red cloak. When the shoemaker was later accused of theft, Høg's ghost burst into the courtroom, slammed his fist on the table and declared: "The cloak is mine, and the cloak he shall have!"
Colonel Finecke Theodosius is seen in the carriage gateway in a black frock coat and tricorn hat, riding in a small carriage. The card player from Dalum Cloister lost the estate at the gaming table and is still heard swearing and pounding the tables at night. Worst are the two hellhounds with red eyes — they once tore a colonel to pieces in the courtyard.
